Andreas Vasilopoulos
Andreas Vassilopoulos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Sciences & Social Work (DES&SW), University of Patras, Greece with his subject being: “Comparative Education: Evaluation of Educational Institutions & Programmes”. His main research interests revolve around issues related to higher education policies -mobility, quality assurance, access. In this context, alone or in collaboration with others, he has been involved in research projects and publications in various languages.
He is a member of the Higher Education Policy Network (https://hepnet.upatras.gr/en/) and since 2016-17 a member of the annual and distance learning Postgraduate Programme “Higher Education Policy: theory and praxis (MaHEP)” (https://mahep-upatras.gr/en/). He is the coordinator of the module “Teacher Education: Theory and Practice” (3B) of the specialization “Teacher Education”.
Angelos Kavasakalis
Angelos Kavasakalis is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Educational Sciences and Social Work at the University of Patras with the subject: “Lifelong Learning Policies”. His main field of research is the analysis and interpretation of the processes of production and implementation of European lifelong learning policies as well as the processes of their transformation at national and sub-national level within the modern internationalized environment. In this context, analysis of higher education policies is a major part of his research and teaching work.
He has been teaching at the University of Patras since the academic year 2016-17. He is a member of the MSc in Higher Education Policy: theory and practice since the beginning of the programme. He is the coordinator of two Thematic Units: “European and National Framework of Higher Education” which is common to both specializations and “Quality Assurance” which is a thematic module in specialization A (Strategic Planning and Quality Assurance). He has contributed to research projects and publications in Greek, English and French.
Despoina Karakatsani
Despoina Karakatsani is Professor at the Department of Social and Education Policy of the University of the Peloponnese. She studied History at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens and then she did her postgraduate studies in Education Sciences at the University of Paris 8-Saint-Denis-Vincennes and in History and Geography Teaching at the University of Paris 7-Jussieu. She completed her doctoral thesis in the field of Education Sciences at the University of Paris 8 Saint-Denis-Vincennes (1998). She taught at the University of Crete and at the Democritus University of Thrace in 1998-2000. She was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Social Studies at the University of Crete in 2000. Since 2004 she has been teaching at the Department of Social and Educational Policy of the University of Peloponnese and since 2006 at the Hellenic Open University. She was President of the Department of Social and Educational Policy (2015-2019) and of the European Society CiCe-Childrens’ Identity and Citizenship in Europe (2016-2018). She was in charge of the pilot project for teacher training in Freneit pedagogy in the Peloponnese (2018-2020). She collaborates in research projects with DARE (Demoracy and Human Rights Education in Europe), NECE (Networking European Citizenship Education), CiCe-Childrens’ Identity and Citizenship in Europe. She is part of the Management committee of HIDDEN- History of Identity Documentation in European Nations. Her research interests include the history of pedagogical theories and institutions, social and political education, alternative educational methods, multicultural education and education for democracy and citizenship. Her articles and studies have been published in many Greek and foreign journals.
Dionysis Kladis
Dionysis Kladis is Professor Emeritus of the University of the Peloponnese in Greece. His main interest is the European higher education policies, and more specifically the policies related to the quality assurance and the social dimension of higher education. He was involved from the very beginning (1999) in the building and the further development of the Bologna Process.
From 1997 up to 2015 he was member of the experts participating in the Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) of the European University Association (EUA). Under this capacity he participated in 33 evaluations of European Universities. During the period 2005-2009, as member of the Steering Committee of the IEP, he played a substantive role in its decision to include in all evaluation panels a student member nominated by the European Students’ Union (ESU).
Dionyssis Kladis has been Secretary General of the Greek Ministry of Education from 1986 to 1988 and Secretary for Higher Education from 1998 to 2004.
Stamelos George
George Stamelos is a professor at the Department of Education and Social Work, University of Patras. He is interested in (European) higher education policies, particularly in quality assurance and the social dimension.
He was a member of the National Quality Assurance Agency (2013-2020) and of the Sectoral Council for Social Sciences of the National Research Agency (2020- 2024). He was a member of the Education team of the European Union’s Tuning Programme (2000-2008). He is the director of the Inter-University Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme “Higher Education Policy: theory and practice” (MaHep) and of the Laboratory “Education Policy, Economics and Lifelong Learning”.
About 200 of his works have been published in Greek, English, French and Spanish.
